Arrival & Location
Zermatt is car-free — the last few metres take you up to Furi by mountain railway. We collect your luggage.
Your way to Furi.
We recommend arriving by train — comfortable, fast, with stunning views. From Zermatt, an e-taxi or the green e-bus takes you to the Matterhorn Express valley station, then the gondola up to Furi. We meet you there.
Why Furi.
A sun terrace at 1860 m
Furi sits nearly three kilometres above Zermatt at 1860 metres above sea level — a small hamlet of about twenty Valais houses, a 17th-century chapel, a handful of traditional mountain restaurants, and our residence. Up here it is quieter than in the village below, the view of the Matterhorn is more direct, and the first sun rays usually hit the chalet before they reach the valley station.
Eight gondola minutes, a different pace
Getting here has been unspectacularly easy since the Furi gondola opened: five minutes from Zermatt station to the Matterhorn Express valley station, then eight minutes of gondola up to Furi summit station. At the arrival point lie our two chalets — Mountain Chalet 4 You and Chalet Hinter dem Rot Stei — right next to ski piste or hiking trail.
Winter ski-in/ski-out with no transfers, summer with the classic Furi heights (suspension bridge, Glacier Trail, Restaurant Stäfeli) on the doorstep. We collect your luggage at the valley station — free for direct bookings.
Altitude meets accessibility
What makes Furi special: the rare combination of altitude and accessibility. Other Zermatt mountain stations like Sunnegga (2288 m) or Riffelalp (2222 m) sit higher, but are further from the railway. Furi at 1860 metres is the sweet spot — high enough for winter-sports certainty and an unobstructed view of the Horn, low enough for three connections to village infrastructure without funicular gymnastics.
Zermatt station reachable in five gondola minutes, Migros in twelve, and around the chalet: the car-free, no-traffic charm.
What summer and winter mean here
In summer the whole spectrum opens up: Stellisee at 2537 metres with its famous Matterhorn reflection, the Edelweiss heights walk towards Sunnegga, or classic Valais dining at the Findlerhof or Stäfeli — the latter two steps from Furi station.
In winter the chalets connect via lift and the Furgg interim station to Matterhorn glacier paradise at 3883 metres — Europe’s highest cable-car station — in thirty minutes. Families with small children benefit from the Wolli Card and the Wolli Park right at the Furi piste entry.
The quiet alternative to Zermatt village
What remains: Furi is the quiet alternative to Zermatt village — mountain-station comfort without hotel traffic, direct piste access without queuing for the first 800 vertical metres, a Valais setting without Edelweiss souvenir shops. The right address for travellers who seek a stillness that gets lost down in Zermatt.
Three ways to Zermatt.
